I love my Admetec Ergos and light (I have the Power Light Orchid F)! I have been using them now for two months, and I wish I had made the... read more switch years ago. I am finishing my residency in pediatric dentistry, and I’ve been seeing only kids and adolescents for the past four years. For context, I’ve been using Surgitel flip-flip down loupes, 3.5x magnification since I was in dental school. Pros: Much easier direct vision: With the loupes in the center of the lens, I can easily look down and directly see my patient. This is great for pediatric dentistry where there are many procedures/patients where direct vision is preferred. When needed, I just adjust my light and have well-lit direct vision. With my other loupes, I would have to bend my neck down really far to see over the tops of the loupes if I needed to use direct vision. Better ergonomics (less head tilt): With my Surgitels, I was able to sit up nice and straight, but I had to tilt my head down quite a bit. My Ergos reduce the amount of head tilt, and I’ve noticed a reduction in neck and upper back strain/fatigue. Lightweight: The Ergos are very light, including the light. Nice to carry around a smaller load on my neck all day in between patients. Long-lasting light batteries: I can go several days without needing to recharge the battery (I keep my light on about half power. It can get really bright, so half intensity works well for me). Good-looking: The frames are high quality and stylish. I had a hard time choosing frames because all of the options look great. Quality: The loupes appear to have been made with attention to detail. Very well made with quality materials that seem like they’ll last for many years. The case: The case is stylish, small, and lightweight. Again, a big upgrade from the Surgitel case I am used to lugging around. Awesome customer service: My sales rep, Ryan, has been very attentive and helpful. He is quick to answer my questions and has checked in with me several times to see how things were going with my new loupes. He came to my residency program (a several hour drive) to meet just with me and give me a demo before purchasing the loupes. Cons: Declination Angle: I find myself wanting a greater declination angle. With 45 degrees I still have to tilt my head down a bit; I can’t look straight ahead like I anticipated (but again, I’m tilting my head down less than with my Surgitels). Lacking in eye protection: I would appreciate frames with lenses that extend closer to the cheeks to provide more protection, especially with how the loupes force me to look forward; there is a bit of space for splashes to potentially reach my eyes. I haven’t had any problems yet, other than one splash that got up pretty high on my cheek underneath the lens. Composite filter: I’m not sure about the button-activated composite filter; I thought I’d love it, but it can be a little tricky to locate down on my waist while being careful with a potentially dirty gloved hand. I’m getting used to it, but it does take more time than just reaching up and flipping the filter on my old light. Overall, if you’re considering “ergonomic” or refractive loupes, I would highly recommend Admetec. I love the product so far and the customer service has been excellent.
